'Twelve' rientrerà in un Cd fatto in casa che Matt e io abbiamo deciso di incidere. Dovremmo riuscire a metterci dentro cinque o sei canzoni originali scritte insieme, partendo da idee dell'uno o dell'altro. Le cose procedono rapidamente e oltre a 'Twelve' abbiamo già pronti altri due pezzi, più un quarto ancora in stesura. Del titolo non se n'è parlato, ma la strana coppia prenderà il nome di Kayenta.

'Twelve' is going to appear in a Cd! Matt and I decided to go with this homemade 'album' idea, so we're throwing in the can some really nice songs. And it's fast too. We have three songs ready to go and a fourth is coming along. We don't have any title yet, but seems like we're gonna call ourselves Kayenta.

'Twelve' ha otto anni, ma nel 2001, quando buttai giù strofa e ritornello, era semplicemente un pezzo per due chitarre. Con il passare del tempo ho pensato più volte ad aggiungere delle parti di canto ed ero convinto che la musica fosse ideale per una voce femminile. Fortunatamente la ricerca non ha dato frutti, perché recentemente ho iniziato a suonare con due bravissimi autori americani, Matt Tyson e Gary Judge. Gary sente su Soundclick i pezzi che ho pubblicato anche su questo blog, gli piacciono e mi chiede di suonare alcune parti di chitarra su un loro magnifico pezzo. Tutto avrei pensato nella vita fuorché di occuparmi solamente di parti di chitarra, oltretutto su musica di quel calibro...beh, Matt mi chiede se in cambio mi può servire qualcosa e io gli propongo di ascoltare il vecchio demo di 'Twelve' e provare a cantarci qualcosa con armonie sul genere di Crosby Stills & Nash. Nel giro di un paio di giorni Matt mi manda una prima prova abbozzando strofa e ritornello...mi piace, butto giù una terza parte, espando la struttura della canzone e...il risultato è qui sopra (Gabriele chitarre, basso, arrangiamento; Matt voce e batteria; il testo è in gran parte opera sua).

The bulk of this song, verse and chorus, was written by me back in 2001 as an instrumental piece meant for two guitars. Early 2009, Matt Tyson (In a Cage, Cinnabar) agrees to give a shot to the vocals, so I expand the song structure adding a bridge section too. Matt wrote nearly all of the lyrics and played all drums. I played all the guitars, vst bass and I also did the arrangement. His contribution is nothing less than outstanding.

Pezzo molto semplice, ispirato ad un viaggio fatto qualche anno fa nel sudovest degli Stati Uniti. Un pad e una chitarra con reverbero, delay e chorus. Con questa musica si dovrebbero aprire i titoli di testa dei Travellers

Very simple track here, inspired by a road trip made a few years ago around the awesome southwest of the United States. It's juts a pad and a guitar. This music should flow along the Travellers' opening credits.

Travellers Rocking the World

Questa è la primissima traccia scritta per The Travellers. E' nata per caso, giocando con la tastiera del computer su un simulatore di chitarra. Essendo il tema principale del film d'animazione ho cercato, per quanto possibile, una frase corta e facilmente memorizzabile. Vedremo se funziona. Dal momento che la storia è ambientata nel futuro ho scelto dei suoni parecchio elettronici, sia per gli strumenti virtuali che per le chitarre. Questa è la versione lunga, ovvero quella inutile! Per il film servirà un edit, 40 secondi con la frase iniziale e la parte finale.

This is the very first track ever written for The Travellers. The main guitar riff, the phrase kicking off the rest of the song, was born on my laptot keyboard while I was trying a virtual guitar machine. This is the main theme of the movie, so I tried to get some kind of instant hook, a short and easy to remember phrase. This is the extended version of the song, or the useless one! We'll definately need an edit, a 40 seconds patchwork with the main phrase and the final section.

Not Enough

Pezzo strumentale scritto e registrato all'inizio di dicembre, piccola soddisfazione visto che su Soundclick.com è entrato nella Top 50, grazie al contest in cui sono stato uno dei tre a non ricevere voti! (il mio è andato a Charlie A) e alla discreta programmazione della batteria (Native Instruments) e del basso (Sytrus).

An early December instrumental. I got some kind of reward out of the huge work behind this track just because Not Enough made its way up to the Top 50 of Soundclick.com. Basically this achievement was possible thanks to the boards contest (yours truly was one of the three guys dead last with zero votes, mine went to Charlie A's Dreamer). Maybe a little of the repeat factor is due to the pretty Vst work on bass (Sytrus sinth) and drums (Native Instruments soundpack, same drumset I used in The Second Chance)

Finita di scrivere ieri, più o meno è definitiva anche se servirebbero dei violini nell'ultima parte, oltre a qualche ritocco alla parte di basso. L'intro è di un minuto e mezzo, lunghetto, annoia anche me ma deve assolutamente essere così.

Fresh one here. I think I can say this is the maybe final version, but still I'm thinking about some strings over the last section and some tweak here and there on the bass lines.

Fino a poco tempo fa Mokee Dugway era solamente, si fa per dire, uno dei posti più incredibili che ho avuto la fortuna di vedere con i miei occhi. Da qualche tempo è anche un modo per dare un minimo di senso all'aspetto musicale di un'idea chiamata Travellers.

To any foreign reader and my Soundclick friends: this is all about the music, therefore, as usual, we'll let the music do the talk. Anyway I'll try to keep this blog updated in english too, so feel free to send violent feedback about the many ways I'm gonna abuse of your language.
